As New CEO of Cerevel, Coles Moves From One Neuro Startup to Another

Tony Coles, the biotech veteran who once steered Onyx Pharmaceuticals into a $10 billion buyout, has left one neurology startup to join another. Coles on Monday was named the CEO of Cerevel Therapeutics, a Boston company that Pfizer and Bain Capital launched in October 2018 with $350 million in funding. The appointment marks the latest chief executive gig at a biotech startup for Coles, a longtime life sciences executive who helped restructure NPS Pharmaceuticals-which was eventually acquired by Shire-and led Onyx Pharmaceuticals to a sale to Amgen in 2013. Tony Coles has taken up the CEO role at Pfizer spinout Cerevel Therapeutics. The appointment puts the man who led Onyx to a $10 billion takeover in charge of using $350 million of Bain Capital's money to advance a pipeline of neuroscience programs.
